Samsung chief stresses 'tech management'

Lee Yoon-woo, new chief executive of Samsung Electronics Co., took office yesterday, pledging to keep the company ahead of its global rivals in the rapidly-changing global market.
Stressing what he calls "technology management," he said the company will make a preemptive investment in promising business areas, such as new IT devices, environment, biotechnology and healthcare, in order to find future growth engines.
"By technology management, I mean that we read what will come next, prepare before our rivals do and secure a technological leadership (in the area)," the 61-year-old CEO said in his inaugural speech.
"In order to do that, we need creative ideas, and global talents and a new organizational culture," he said.
Samsung officials explained later that new IT devices that the CEO mentioned include flexible display, wearable computer, new mobile devices and home entertainment robots and chips for vehicles.
He also called on the employees not to squander new business opportunities in emerging markets, while continuing to try innovative products and new business approaches in the mature markets.
