Where is IT Headed? Thoughts from the TriState CIO Forum

I spent Wednesday at the TriState CIO Forum, mostly listening to various CIOs discuss how they used information technology to change their organizations. Many of the discussions were quite interesting. Perhaps the most obvious theme was the IT needs to move from being a support organization to a central part of the business, and this was said in different ways by just about every speaker at the event.
That's nothing really new, of course, but it was interesting to see how this thought is being applied to organizations as diverse as the NYPD, an online retailer, and a company that runs amusement parks. One thing that really stood out was how in many cases, business intelligence and data mining are now becoming crucial techniques of moving organizations forward. Below are some conference highlights.
