I have questions for you on Second Life.

Here’s my question. What do you have to say?
I’m wondering what the economic benefit is for users of Second Life. Businesses and entrepreneurs who advertise or set up shop on Second Life have the economic goal of transferring that to real-life means. But what economic gain do users get from it? All I can figure out is that they spend a lot of real money for intangible things in a made-up world.
What am I missing? Does anybody know the answer to the questions ?

As long as I know about it, many businesses are using the second life as a tool of marketing their products. Thus, I don't think there is direct revenue mede from the site. Their on-line shop is working as means of creating real life transactions. I've heard that some people are making money in the site through real estate purchasing and selling. But, I haven't heard that corporations are making money directly though the site functions.
However, I'm not 100% sure about what's going on in the site. I just tried to summarize what I know about the second life.

In my opinion, users are beneficial as well, like company. Eventually second life users want to get more fun and earn more money by using that. It depends on what users have in their mind. Not all users spend much money on second life. and Not every company earn more money on second life. If users felt that the company is not good, that makes the company lose their money and reputation.

Second life would give us new way of doing business near future. As Sukgu Kim mentioned, lots of enterprises is entering second life for marketing purposes nowadays. I think marketing new product or services through second life could be a new trend, which will be proven later. As for making money from second life, a company can spend less money to promote their product or service in second life than in real marketing activities, this could lead to get more gain or "net income" from the bottom line after all.

In my company, CEO tried to establish and implemented the island of SEC, Samsung SDS in this virtual world, Second Life. But a lot of executive officer suspected the effect of this establishment and investment. As previous people mentioned, now our company it is just a strong marketing tool that reflected by new trends like other global company. After some years, this marketing island would be more profitable, it doesn’t know anybody. When I read the Guiness Book 2008 at the book store, I knew that Second Life was categorized to Game directory, surprisingly. So simply supposing from this game prospective, I can bet that just Second Life are making money as game site.
