My Second Life Experience_part3

I don’t have the patience or the need to go spend hours in a virtual world like Second Life. I already feel sorry for myself because I am spending too much time in front of my computer. For me, the Second Life experience is one step further into individualism, isolation, disengagement, artificiality, utopia and social maladjusted. I sometimes think about how little interaction i could have during one full day with the people surrounding me because I choose to send an email or a text message rather than calling or going for a coffee with a friend. and I’m not even talking about how estranged it feels to be standing on the metro, surrounded by an army of strangers, and to just look at all of us. us, listening to our ipod, playing with our blackberry or pretending that we are sleeping just so that we don’t have to sustain other people’s gaze. Second Life might give you the possibility to create a virtual social network, but at the end of the day, your friend Suzki in Second Life, who is from Japan in his real life, will not show up to enjoy a great dinner at your favorite Indian place just down the street when you will log off. I feel the same way regarding other platforms like Flickr or Face book. It takes time to build a virtual social network and it could take you away from your social network in your real life.
