My Second Life Experience_part4

I just feel that we are already so distant and isolated from each other in the “real world” that I don’t really connect with an artificial or virtual one like Second Life. I know that many people will disagree, I’m sure that some would have good things to say about this world. I am no expert, I know nothing about it, except what I’ve been reading for the last 2 days, but I firmly refuse to be part of this experience an to join this world where you can buy fake virtual stuff with real money. I still think that something is missing in these artificial relationships and online communities. We are in an era where people have access to another reality just by sitting in front of their computer. And I don’t think this is always the best place to engage with the world around us, even though you can read the newspapers from China or Japan just by the clicking on a URL address. We sign online petition, we support causes on face book or we ask for a better protection of our rivers by sending generic letters through e-mail to our prime minister. What happened to the people protesting in the streets? What about 30 buses full of students, going down to Pusan, and claiming for a free education? This is a retreat into the self. I guess I’m too nostalgic or too old school, or just not “cool” enough. Thank you for your attention. This is all I want to say today.
